He was a Steel Labourer. John died suddenly at 31 Burnell Street, Owlerton, Sheffield. He came home in January 1916 on Munitions work for Daniel Doncaster and Sons Ltd. Sheffield. |

Woodhouse, David. York and Lancaster Regiment Corporal. Age 32. 28-Oct 1918. Son of Charles and Louisa (Nee Howson) Woodhouse. His parents married in Sheffield, 1880. Husband of Jane (Nee Howell) Woodhouse, of 13, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough, Sheffield, they married in Sheffield 1905. David enlisted at the Corn Exchange, Sheffield on the 5th September 1914 and he went to France on the 27/8/1915. David was a skilled Forger and he was released for munitions work on the 19/1/1916 to Kayser Ellison & Co. Ltd., Carlisle Steel Works, Sheffield. David died at home following influenza and bronchitis. If men had a particular skill, which helped the war effort and their employers applied, they could be brought back 'On munitions' for essential work. They were still attached to their regiment and were available to be recalled to the colours if circumstances changed. |
